The Month in Tech History
This month, let's look at the fabulous fifties!
1956 – Ampex demonstrated the VRX-1000 videotape recorder at the National Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters Convention in Chicago. It was the first successful commercial videotape recorder. The VRX-1000 was renamed the Mark IV and sold briskly at $50,000. (That's $450,000 in today's dollars!)
1959 – The Department of Defense called a meeting at the University of Pennsylvania to define the objectives for a new Common Business Language. Captain Grace Hopper led the group that kicked off COBOL.
